Andy Yan leads Ford 1-2-3-4 in qualifying at Guangdong
Reigning China Touring Car champion Andy Yan has taken pole position for the first round of the 2014 China Touring Car Championship for the Changan Ford FRD team, with Ford sweeping to claim the top four spots on the grid.
In the wet conditions which affected the Guangdong International Circuit throughout the day, the
qualifying session was a tricky one for the drivers.
Andy Yan set his best lap of 1:33.568 right at the start of the session and grabbed pole position immediately. His Ford team-mates Rainey He, Darryl O’Young and Martin Xie took positions two through four.
The qualifying session was briefly halted with HKR’s Mung Chi Hung running off the track in the middle of the qualifying session in his Honda Integra DC5.
Sunny Wong managed to qualify fifth in his Team Work Motorsport Citroen C-Elysée after the session
restarted at 16:30. Filipe de Souza ended up seventh in the Team MIRR Chevrolet Cruze LT, the highest placed wild card entry for he event.
Wang Rue was the fastest of the four Shanghai VW 333 Racing drivers in sixth, exactly 1.6 seconds off the pace of Yan, with his VW team-mates setting the eighth, ninth and tenth fastest times in the session.
The CTCC Super Production race will be held at 13:15 local time on Sunday.
