Wang Rue wins for Volkswagen at the Beijing Goldenport circuit

Wang Rue won the sixth round of the 2014 China Touring Car Championship at the Beijing Goldenport circuit for Shanghai VW 333 Racing, with Rainey He of Changan Ford FRD Team and the VW of Jiang Tengyi finished second and third.

Following yesterday’s qualifying, Zhang Zhen Dong had been promoted to pole position before the race start, following an appeal lodged by Shanghai VW 333 Racing after he was excluded yesterday due to an apparent technical infringement.

Jason Zhang’s G Racing Chevrolet was passed by Wang Rue and Jiang Tengyi of Shanghai VW 333 Racing at the race start, while Kia Racing’s Larry Lin Le Feng spun into the gravel, causing the first safety car session on lap four.

Wang Rue passed Jiang Tengyi and advanced towards second place on lap 14, just four laps after the race restarted. The safety car led the field again from lap 16, just a lap after DHRT’s Henry Ho Wai Kuen hit the pit wall.

Zhang Zhen Dong suffered from mechanical trouble on lap 18 and retired after leading more than half of the race, promoting Wang Rue to the race lead until the race ended on Lap 25, with just 12 cars finishing the race.

The seventh round of CTCC will be held next weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit, acting as one of the support races for WTCC’s second Chinese round.
