Andy Yan heads Team AG Group 1-2 in CTM Macau Cup

Andy Yan of Team AG Group won the CTM Macau Cup race ahead of teammate Nattavaue Charoensukhawatana, with 9’s Racing’s Patrick Chan claiming the final podium spot.

Pole-sitter Andy Yan and Nattavaue led the race after the start, while Chou Keng Kuen climbed to third position.

Accidents in the race was concentrated to the lower part of the grid. Helder Lam Brito da Rosa spun into the barrier but able to compete the race. Lo Hung Pui retired his Mini Cooper S in the hairpin after crashing with Liu Lic Ka in the Dona Maria II corner.

Leading driver Yan was closely followed by Nattavaue and Chou on lap four. Chou passed Nattavaue in a lap later by pushing the later in Solitude Esses corner, pushing the Thai driver into a spin, resulting in a loss of several positions.

Chou suffered of mechanical problems after the incident and limped back into the pits to retire on lap six. The incident meant that Yan was able to extend his lead to ten seconds ahead of Chan’s Peugeot RC-Z.

Nattavaue was able to recover after the incident and passed Chan for second place on lap ten, securing Team AG Group’s 1-2 finish in the race. P

Despite the top ten finishers being mostly dominated by Macanese drivers, Pu Jun Jin from Mainland China, charged to fifth place from eleventh on the grid, becoming the third non-Macanese driver.

Macanese drivers Leong Chi Kin and Wong Kiang Kuen finished fourth and seventh as the highest placed Mini Cooper S and Ford Fiesta ST drivers respectively. There were only 16 competitors finishing the 12 lap race from the 22 competitors on the starting grid.
