Zhang Zhen Dong heads to Tianma chasing his second title

Shanghai VW 333 Racing’s Jiang Tengyi heads to the Tianma circuit in Shanghai this weekend chasing his second drivers’ title, but has Changan Ford drivers Andy Yan and Rainey He close behind in the rankings for what will be a close fight for the 2016 China Touring Car Championship Super Cup 2.0T title.

Jiang’s lead is just three points over Changan Ford FRD’s Andy Yan, who his chasing his fourth title, not including his champion elect status in this year’s TCR Asia series.

Ford meanwhile lead the manufacturers’ championship quite comfortably over the Volkswagen squad, who will again be bolstered by the presence of BTCC front-runner Adam Morgan, before the 25-year-old makes his Macau debut later this month. Ford however have redrafted the UK’s Dan Wells to help their bid this weekend.

Last time out, the normal order was disrupted, with the BAIC Senova team winning both races with their Saab-based D60. Drivers and brothers David Zhu and Juan Carlos Zhu will again be chasing victory in the team’s two cars, with David Zhu chasing down Teamwork Citroën driver Alex Hui for fifth in the standings.

Meanwhile, in the Super Cup 1.6T class, Dongfeng Honda’s Martin Xie has a comfortable but not insurmountable 30-point lead in the standings over Kia’s Jason Zhang, while the manufacturers’ battle between the two is much more intense, with both tied on 408 points going into the weekend.

Qualifying for the Super Cup 2.0T race takes place on Saturday at 14:20 CST, with the 1.6T qualifying at 15:20 CST.
