Leo Yi leads Kia 1-2 in Super Cup 1.6T class qualifying at Tianma

Kia’s Leo Yi led a Kia Racing 1-2 on his return to the China Touring Car Championship for this weekend’s season finale, qualifying ahead of team-mate Jim Ka To, with Macau’s Henry Ho third for the Dongfeng Honda Racing Team.

Only six cars made it within the 110% qualifying maximum during the session, with Ruizi MZ Razing’s Sun Zheng (Mazda Atenza/6) and Honda’s Zou Si Rui left to request dispensation to take part, while Sun’s Mazda team-mate Chen Zhao (Mazda Axela/3) not even setting a time.

The two main championship protagonists Jason Zhang (Kia) and Martin Xie (Honda) qualified fourth and fifth, with Larry Lin the last driver within 110% of Leo Yi’s pole-setting time of 1:06.789, 4.6 seconds off the pace.

The first race with the reversed grid takes place at 9:25 CST on Sunday.
