Rob Huff tops first practice session at Ningbo in China

Rob Huff led the way in the first free practice session for the China Touring Car Championship at the Ningbo International Speedpark, finishing just over 1.3 seconds clear in his SAIC VW333 Racing Volkswagen Lamando of Kia driver Leo Yi Hong Li.

The WTCC driver displaced Leo Yi at the top of the time sheets at the half-way mark in his Volkswagen, before improving further with five minutes to go, the only driver under the 1:54 mark, and well under it with a time of 1:52.981.

Leo Yi’s team-mate Alex Fontana was third fastest, a further half a second back, while Daniel Lloyd, in his third CTCC weekend of the season and his second with the BAIC Senova team, was fourth fastest in his Senova D60.

The Volkwagen of Jiang Tengyi was sixth fastest, just ahead of Tomas Engström in the best of the Haima M6s.

The Kia of Jim Ka To followed, with Rodolfo Avila’s Volkswagen in eighth, followed by the remaining two BAIC Senovas of current championship leader David Zhu, and his team-mate and brother Juan Carlos Zhu.

Reigning champion Zheng Zhen Dong was just outside of the top ten in his SAIC VW 333 Lamando, The fastest of the four Changan Ford FRD Team Focuses, while the best-placed of the four Changan FRD Team Ford Focuses was Andy Yan in 13th, 4.3 seconds off of the overall pace.

The second practice is scheduled for 15:50 CST (09:50 CET).
