Rob Huff given penalty in Ningbo Race 2 but still finishes on the podium

Rob Huff was given a ten-second penalty by the CTCC officials for overtaking under a yellow flag in the very wet second Super Cup race of the weekend at Ningbo, which drops the SAIC VW333 Racing driver to third in the classification after crossing the line second.

The penalty puts Huff behind the BAIC Senova of Dan Lloyd, but the WTCC regular is still pleased with the weekend.

“They were very difficult conditions,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes “I was amazed they started the race. The first few laps were just treacherous. At almost no point did I go full-throttle on the straight, the one time I tried I ended up facing the grandstand, but fortunately got it back.”

“It was a good race. As for the yellow flags, you can’t see anything in these conditions, and there’s no peripheral vision. I apparently hadn’t ‘completed’ my pass when we got to the yellow flag, which is why we got the penalty.”

The race was really tough, we settled when we got to second as Fontana was ahead but wasn’t in the championship, so it’s a great result and a fantastic weekend in very difficult conditions.”

Huff’s success in only two of his four scheduled weekends in the CTCC has put him into surprise contention for the championship, with the leaders having a difficult weekend at the Ningbo circuit.

David Zhu for BAIC Senova still leads the standings with 102, just four points clear of the Changan Ford FRD Team entry of Martin Cao, with Volkswagen’s Jiang Tengyi third, three points further behind.

Huff meanwhile has leapt to seventh overall on 74 points, just 28 points behind with 90 still available from the final two rounds, with the next race at Wuhan on November 12th.
