Teamwork Motorsport to run seven cars in Macau GP touring car support races

Hong Kong-based squad Teamwork Motorsport will be very active at this weekend’s Macau Grand Prix, running three Peugeot RCZs in the CTM Macau Cup, in which they are the defending champions, as well as four Volkswagen Golf GTI TCRs in the all-TCR class Chinese Racing Cup.

Last year the team competed in both the Guia Race, running both their CTCC-spec Citroën C-Elysées and their TCR-spec Volkswagens when the touring car race was held as the finale of the 2016 TCR International Series.

This year, they’ve moved their Golfs to the Chinese Racing Cup, which has switched to the new specification Senova D50 TCR for this year, and also opened up the entry to allow all TCR cars to compete, with Teamwork running cars for Alex Hui, Andrew Lo, Samuel Hsieh and Sunny Wong in a 34-car field.

In the CTM Macau Touring Car Cup, Paul Poon returns to defend his title with team-mates Samson Fung and Alex Fung, running a trio of Suncity-backed Peugeot RCZs in the class which has now merged with the Macau Road Sport Challenge.

The regulations have therefore allowed technical developments to the previous generation of cars, and the team have been hard at work, with development of their new RCZ completed by WTCC front-runner Rob Huff.

“The development and testing process was tough for everyone in past few months,” said Paul Poon. “We are ambitious and we want to deliver good results to our long-time sponsor, Suncity Group.

“All in all, I think we’ve built a competitive machine for the Macau GP. The involvement of Rob Huff not only helped in the development, but also boosted our confidence, so we are ready and looking forward to the GP.”
