David Zhu claims 2017 CTCC title in Shanghai season finale

BAIC Senova driver David Zhu claimed the 2017 Chinese Touring Car Championship title in the final race of the year at the Shanghai International Circuit with SAIC VW333 Racing claiming the manufacturers’ title in the penultimate race yesterday.

Zhu only needed to score two points in the final race after finishing second in the penultimate race and crossed the line in tenth position to score enough points to claim the title.

The first race of the season finale weekend was won by Kia driver Alex Fontana, with Zhu crossing the line in second place from eleventh on the grid, five seconds behind. Jason Zhang of Kia claimed the final podium position, just four tenths of a second behind Zhu.

The final race of the season was won by Zheng Zhen Dong, leading a SAIC VW333 Racing 1-2 with Rodolfo Ávila in second, a position earning him the runner-up spot in the championship. Zheng’s victory brought him up to third position in the drivers’ championship.

Yesterday’s race winner Fontana rounded off the podium in third, six seconds from race winner and Volkswagen driver Zheng.
