Leo Yi Hong Li on pole position for Dongfeng Kia at Zhuhai
Leo Yi Hong Li has taken pole position for the second race weekend of the China Touring Car Championship at Zhuhai, outqualifying SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing’s Rodolfo Avila by just 23-thousandths of a second.
Leo Yi topped the time sheets with a time of 1:42.831 in the close session, with Avila just behind and with Leo Yi’s team-mate Martin Xie third fastest, just 0.071 seconds behind.
Martin Cao was fourth fastest in the best of the Changan Ford FRD Team Focuses, just over a tenth of a second behind, with Ford team-mate Andy Yan fifth fastest.
Rainey He in the #11 Ford Focus was sixth, ahead of Darryl O’Young, the fastest of the new Senova D50s in seventh, just under three-tenths back.
Volkswagen’s Zheng Zhen Don was eighth ahead of Juan Carlos Zhu’s Senova, with Zhang Da Sheng’s Ford completing the top ten.
There are no international drivers on duty for the second round of the CTCC this weekend, with Alex Fontana effectively replaced at Kia by Martin Xie, and Rob Huff on duty in the World Touring Car Cup this weekend, with his spot at Volkswagen taken by Cai Yue, who qualified in 11th.
The race is scheduled to take place at 15:00 CST (09:00 CEST).
