Sunny Wong drafted in at Changan Ford team for Guangdong

Current TCR China championship leader Sunny Wong has been drafted in at the Changan Ford FRD Team for this weekend’s round of the China Touring Car Championship, replacing Zhang Da Sheng with immediate effect.

Wong, who races a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR in the TCR China championship, was a CTCC regular in 2014-2016, racing a privateer Citroen C-Elysée for Teamwork Motorsport, claiming two pole positions in his career, and a race victory at Guangdong, where this weekend’s round takes place.

39-year-old Wong is the current TCR China points leader after a podium and a victory just over a week ago at the Zhuhai International Circuit. He’ll now swap his Golf for a Ford Focus 2.0T, joining new team-mates Andy Yan, Rainey He and Martin Cao this weekend.

“I am very thankful to be given the opportunity to race with a top team in CTCC, and to compete with so many great drivers,” said Wong. “Changan Ford has always been a strong team in the CTCC with multiple teams’ and drivers’ titles hanging on its wall.”
