Michael Lewis leads Bryan Herta Autosport 1-2 in first Utah race

Michael Lewis headed a dominant Bryan Herta Autosport 1-2 in the first World Challenge race of the weekend at Utah Motorsports Campus with team-mate Mark Wilkins alongside him on the podium, crossing the line 2.6 seconds behind.

Championship leader Ryan Eversley was unable to respond to the pace of the Hyundai drivers in his RealTime Racing-prepared Honda and crossed the line in third, close to 16 seconds behind the leading duo.

Wilkins made his way past Eversley at the start of the race from third on the grid and was never challenged for the remainder of the race.

Matt Fassnacht performed a strong race for Murillo Racing to finish fourth in his Audi RS 3 LMS from seventh on the grid.

Michael Hurczyn finished fifth in his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR but had to fight for it. The FCP Euro by HRD was passed by both Fassnach and Mason Filippi at the beginning of the race but was able to fight back past Filippi with 15 minutes left of the race.

Filippi continued to fall down the order and crossed the line in tenth after starting fourth on the grid, seemingly struggling with grip in the hot conditions.

Hurczyn headed three Volkswagens over the finishing line with Jarett Andretti in sixth for Copeland Motorsports and Nate Vincent claiming seventh for FCP Euro by HRD.

The second race of the weekend starts at 13:00 local time tomorrow with Lewis starting from pole position.
