Colin Turkington storms to pole position on CTCC debut

Colin Turkington took pole position on his China Touring Car Championship debut with the SAIC VW333 Racing team, over half a second clear of his team-mate Rodolfo Avila.

Turkington’s time of 1:22.118 came in the final half of the 30 minute session, held at 7:45am at the Wuhan street circuit.

Avila was second fastest, ensuring a strong result for the Volkswagen team, following up on his pole position from last weekend, while Rainey He was third in an unballasted Changan FRD Ford Focus.

Zhang Zhen Dong was third in the #8 Volkswagen Lamando, with Adam Morgan fifth quickest on his CTCC return in the BAIC Senova D50.

Championship front-runner Martin Cao was sixth in his Ford Focus, with team-mate Josh Burdon seventh.

Jim Ka To was the fastest of the Kias in eighth, with Martin Xie’s Kia ninth and David Zhu’s Senova completing the top ten.

Championship leader Leo Yi qualified down in 13th position in his Kia K3 2.0T, 1.8 seconds off the pace.

The first race is scheduled for 13:50 CST (07:50 CEST).
