Adam Morgan takes victory in the second race at Wuhan

Adam Morgan put on a lights-to-flag display in the second race at Wuhan, winning the race for BAIC Senova by 4.2 seconds ahead of Changan Ford’s Josh Burdon, with SAIC Volkswagen driver Colin Turkington completing the podium.

Morgan started from pole courtesy of a top ten reversed-grid draw, and led the way into Turn 1 while Josh Burdon launched himself from fourth on the grid to second in the new FRD Ford Focus.

Further back, championship contenders Zhang Zhen Dong and Leo Yi came together in their Volkswagen and Kia respectively, falling to the back of the pack.

Colin Turkington had started seventh, and was slowly picking his way forward, passing the Ford of Martin Cao for sixth on lap three, before making his way past David Zhu’s Senova on lap five down the inside at Turn 12.

Turn 12 is where Turkington would develop a signature move, passing Andy Yan’s Ford for fourth on lap eight and then chasing down the Senova of Juan Carlos Zhu, eventually passing the D50 with four laps to go, but by then Morgan and Burdon had pulled away a significant gap, with Morgan also managing a three second margin to Burdon’s Ford.

Juan Carlos Zhu would finish fourth ahead of brother and team-mate David, with all three Senovas in the top five.

Rodolfa Avila would work his way up from 15th and last to finish fifth in his SAIC VW333 Racing Lamando GTS, with Leo Yi and Zhang Zhen Dong recovering from their early altercation to finish seventh and ninth, separated by the Kia of Jason Zhang, with Yang Fan’s Volkswagen completing the top ten.

The next round of the championship takes place at the Tianma circuit in three weeks’ time.
