Sunny Wong takes pole position for the Macau Touring Car Cup race

Sunny Wong has taken pole position for Teamwork Motorsport at the Macau Touring Car Cup, dominating the session in the team’s Subaru WRX STi, bouncing back after turbo issues in Thursday’s practice.

The session was red-flagged before a lap was set after one of the Minis rolled at Fisherman’s Bend, causing a minor delay.

Sunny Wong put down his pole position time as his first flying lap, setting a time of 2:31.910 in his all-wheel drive Subaru which is entered in the Over 1950cc class.

Kelvin Wong’s session soon ended afterwards, when the Son Veng Racing Chevrolet crashed out at Lisboa, which was rescued behind double-waved yellow flags.

Paul Poon, in the 1.6T class Peugeot RCZ, also run by Teamwork Motorsport, briefly improved to second, before he was dropped back by later improvements by Wong Wan Long’s Mitsubishi, and then Japanese driver Mitsuhiro Kinoshita in the GTO Racing Team Nissan GTR-34, but Poon remained on pole in the class.

The qualifying session ended under red flags with two minutes to go after the Mini Cooper S of Leong Chi Kin crashed out, blocking the track.

Samson Fung ended up fifth in the Teamwork Motorsport Audi TTRS, ahead of his son Alex Fung’s Teamwork Peugeot RCZ.

Stephen Lee was seventh in his Mitsubishi EVO IX, leading another three Mitsubishis, of Ko Kim Tak, Chan Chi Ha and Wei Chao Yin.

The 13 lap race is scheduled for 10:25 local time tomorrow.
