Yu Kanamaru wins again at Fuji to claim points lead
Yu Kanamaru claimed his second straight victory of the TCR Japan series weekend at Fuji Speedway and has claimed the points lead.
The Team Goh Models driver started from pole position and claimed the lead as the lights went out. The Honda driver never looked back and took the finishing flag close to 14 seconds ahead of Alfa Romeo driver Shuji Maejima in second place.
The opening lap saw one incident as Alfa Romeo driver Mototino spun. The field was able to avoid him and he rejoined the race in last position.
British driver Matthew Howson was second initially but had to retire due to a technical issue with his Honda Civic TCR.
Maejima managed to snatch second place with just three minutes left of the race from RT Team Wakayama driver Takeshi Matsumoto who had to settle for the final podium position.
The Volkswagen duo of Shogo Mitsuyama and Hirobon claimed positions four and five, 18 and 28 seconds from winning driver Kanamaru respectively.
Hong Kong driver Paul Ip drover a strong race to finish sixth from 14th on the grid. The Audi pair of Takuro Shinohara and Yoshiki rounded off the top eight.
Kanamaru heads the standings on 104 points with Mitsuyama and Matsumoto sharing second place, both on 96 points.
The next TCR Japan series round takes place on September 28-29th at Okayama.
