Mat’o Homola tops morning warm up in Brno

Slovakian driver Mat’o Homola was fastest of all in the 15 minute warm up ahead of today’s final two races of the FIA European Touring Car Cup at Brno.

The 19-year-old BMW driver, who is ten points behind points leader Petr Fulín in the drivers’ standings and is the Czech driver’s only threat for the title this weekend, set a best time of 2:13.030, nearly seven-tenths of a second faster than the next quickest car of Zengõ’s Ferenc Ficza.

Petr Fulín in the Krenek Motorsport BMW 320si was third fastest, just over 1.1 seconds down on Homola’s time, with Andreas Pfister fourth fastest in his SEAT León Supercopa.

Michal Matĕjovský, who had originally grabbed pole position yesterday before being handed a three place penalty, was fifth fastest, ahead of the Galaxy Racing SEAT of Aurélien Comte.

Dušan Borković was seventh in the NIS Petrol Racing Chevrolet Cruze, with Peter Rikli eighth in his Honda Civic, with the two SEATs of Nikolay Karamyshev and Jordi Oriola rounding out the top ten.

Gille Brucker was the fastest of the Super 1600 class contingent in the Team Lux Motor Ford Fiesta and was 20th overall, with the S1600 champion Kevin Krammes deciding to sit out the session.

The first race of the day gets under way at 11:25 CET.
