Penalties for Fischer and Kranenberg for Spa clashes

Christians Fischer and Kranenberg were both handed 30 second penalties by the stewards for separate incidents in both of today’s races at Spa-Francorchamps.

Ravenol Team Ford driver Kranenberg had originally been classified in 23rd position for the first race, and fourth in the Super 1600 class, but dropped to 24th and fifth in class, losing one spot to Ukrainian team-mate Kseniya Niks after being handed a 30 second penalty for late race contact at the Bus Stop chicane with series newcomer Ben Lintgen.

Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Christian Fischer was given the same penalty for final lap contact with Rikli Motorsport’s Andrina Gugger in race two. The Swiss pair came together at the Bus Stop chicane when Fischer made a do-or-die lunge on the final lap in order to try and reclaim seventh position, which he’d let slip after a spin a lap earlier.

Gugger’s Honda Civic was still able to cross the line in seventh, while Fischer crossed the line with broken suspension in his BMW 320si in eighth, fifth in the TC2 class, but with the penalty he drops to 17th overall, and seventh in the TC2 class.
