Fredrik Lestrup takes commanding season opener win

Former STCC and Dunlop V8 Supercar driver Fredrik Lestrup took a commanding win in the 2015 ADAC Procar season opener at Oschersleben. The Swede crossed the line over 14 seconds ahead of Ford driver Heiko Hammel in second place.

”This was our first race with the new car, many thanks to the team for the great work. I was able to to control the race when I got into the lead,” said Lestrup.

Lestrup started from pole position but was passed by Hammel at the start. But it was not long until Lestrup was able to get back into the lead as Hammel suffered from overheating tyres due to miscalculated tyre pressure.

Johannes Leidinger made it two Ford Fiestas in the top three, close to 18 seconds behind Lestrup.

Division two saw Matthias Meyer winning in his Ford Fiesta ahead of Andreas Rinke, driving a Citroën Saxo, and Dominique Schaak in third position. At first it looked like Ralf Glatzel was going to take the victory, but a technical problem saw him retiring just four laps from the finish.

Division three, for Mini JCW cars only, saw Steve Kirsch clinching victory ahead of Nils Ballerstein and Bernhard Wagner. While Kirsch had a quiet race, there was a fight for second place between Ballerstein and Wagner. Ballerstein managed to get past Wagner who made a mistake on lap 13 to secure second place.

The ADAC Procar season opener weekend continues tomorrow with race number two.
