Petr Fulín secures pole position for the ETCC in Slovakia

Krenek Motorsport’s Petr Fulín took pole position for the second round of the 2015 European Touring Car Cup at the Slovakiaring, outqualifying local favourite Mat’o Homola by just under a tenth of a second, while Serbia’s Dusan Borkovic’s qualifying session was ended early.

Fulín’s time of 2:13.661 was set during his first run in the 30-minute session, while few improvements followed with the majority of the field setting their best laps in the first ten minutes.

Homola, who had just qualified in 11th for his WTCC debut with Campos Racing moments before, switched back to his SEAT León Cup Racer was was just 97-thousandths slower than Fulín. The Slovakian improved later, but could only find a few more thousandths of a second from his SEAT to close the gap to 0.080 with three minutes to go.

Dusan Borkovic, who had been fastest in Friday afternoon’s test session and Free Practice this morning, was third quickest on his first run, but a puncture on the front-left caused substantial damage to his B3 Racing SEAT, and the former WTCC driver was unable to go out and improve in the session.

Ferenc Ficza was fourth fastest in the Zengo Motorsport SEAT with Andreas Pfister fifth in his SEAT, with the Single-Make Trophy cars completing the top five.

In sixth was Davit Kajaia in the Liqui Moly Team Engstler BMW 320 TC and therefore the pole position sitter in the TC2T class, while Michal Matejovsky was the best placed driver in the TC2 class, putting his Kreken Motorsport BMW 320si ninth overall.

In S160, Ulrike KRafft took her first pole of the season in the Ravenol Team Ford Fiesta, 15th overall and 17.4 seconds off of the ultimate pace, and just three-tenths of a second ahead of S1600 points leader Nicklas Mackschin.

ETCC’s first race gets underway at 10:05 CET on Sunday, with the top eight reversed to set the grid for race two at 11:10.
