Dusan Borkovic takes clear lead at the half-way point, working on WTCC for 2016

Serbia’s Dusan Borkovic has taken a clear lead of the European Touring Car Cup’s Single-Make Trophy standings after the half-way mark of the season after a victory and a second place in France, and says he’s working flat-out during the summer break on returning to the WTCC next season.

Borkovic cruised to victory in race one from pole position, while a strong run from eighth on the grid in race two saw him finish second, despite an incident with TopCar Racing’s Ronny Jost. Borkovic felt Jost was responsible for the incident, but the stewards felt differently and gave Borkovic a driving standards flag during the race.

“I knew that it would be difficult (in race two) because the cars in front would be the same kind of cars with the same performances and this circuit is very difficult for overtaking,” said Borkovic. “My aim was to get maximum points. I had a good start, I overtook Mr. Fulín and Mr. Homola and also Kajaia. It was good for me but Mr. Jost was a little bit dirty, I’d overtaken him but he hit me in the front-left wheel so the toe was really bad so after that I couldn’t push so much.

“I saw Pfister had a big gap in front of me so I just looked after my tyres and drove to finish the race and collect the points. At the half-way part of the season I can say I’m pretty happy.”

During the off season break, Borkovic will be working on trying to return to the WTCC next season, after his disastrous programme with Proteam Racing fell apart after one race meeting, with the two plus JAS Motorsport now involved in legal issues.

“I think that I will have a lot of meetings with my sponsors about WTCC next season, every day all day, but I hope we can manage to do that.”
