Team Unicorse targeting ETCC return with new Alfa Romeo Giuliettas

European Touring Car Cup race-winning Hungarian squad Team Unicorse are aiming to be back on the grid in 2016, returning the Alfa Romeo brand to the grid. The team have confirmed they are talking with Romeo Ferraris, who are building the new Giulietta for the TCR International Series and Italian Touring Car Championship, about running the cars in ETCC’s new-for-2016 TCN2 class.

The team, which campaigned the venerable Alfa Romeo 156 S2000 in 2014, with FIA European Truck Racing Championship regular Norbert Kiss taking an overall victory with the historic car in the rain in Slovakia, might still start the season with the 156 while negotiations are ongoing with Romeo Ferraris.

The 156 S2000 first raced in 2004, and had to have its homologation extended in order to compete in the 2014 season.

“We are working hard to be there for a full season but nothing is for sure in this moment,” said Team Unicorse manager Zoltán Kertesi.

“Our best alternative is FIA ETCC, because our team wants to get the most out of our investment and this is the international touring car series which offers by far the best value for money ratio.
We also have a good relationship with the organisation of the series, and we love the atmosphere of these events.”

“We are working to buy the Alfa Romeo Giulietta built by Romeo Ferraris and we took a visit to Milan to discuss this project. At the moment we don’t have anything signed but in the next one-two weeks we have to make a decision.”
