Peter Rikli leads Honda 1-2 from Peugeot challenge in testing

ETCC Super 2000 points leader Peter Rikli was fastest of all in the first testing session of the weekend, running alongside the WTCC field at the Nürburgring circuit. The Honda driver finished ahead of his Rikli Motorsport team-mate Kris Richard, while Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Teddy Clairet proved to be the closest challenger to the Hondas in the new Peugeot 308 Racing Cup.

Clairet showed initial pace in the Peugeot, with the 22-year-old holding the top spot throughout the first part of the session before Rikli Motorsport’s Honda Civic TCRs jumped to the fore, with Peter Rikli putting in a time of 9:22.213 to end the session fastest, 2.5 seconds clear of his fellow Swiss team-mate Kris Richard.

Christjohannes Schriber looked set to finish third in the Krenek Motorsport SEAT León before a last-minute flyer from Clairet saw him put the 308 up to third, just under three-seconds from Rikli’s time, with Schreiber forced to settle for fourth.

David Pouget put his Peugeot 308 fifth fastest, while Lema Racing’s Fabio Mota was sixth.

Of the ten TCN2 class entries, there was no time set by regular front-runner Petr Fulín, while all of the S1600 cars didn’t take part in the test, meaning just nine cars of the 18 entered took part.

The ETCC cars are back on track with the WTCC at 18:45 CET.
