Sheldon van der Linde scores Audi’s third win of the day at Spa

Comtoyou Racing driver Sheldon van der Linde won the fourth and final race of the day at Spa-Francorchamps, extending his and co-driver Stefano Comini’s lead in the standings, while Maxime Potty finished second in the Team WRT Volkswagen, passing team-mate Rob Huff at the finish.

Edouard Mondron was fourth in the Delahaye SEAT, with he and his brother Guillaume leaving Spa as the effective points leaders of the full season entries.

Mat’o Homola started on pole position courtesy of his Race 3 win, while Rob Huff got the jump on van der Linde’s Audi in his Team WRT Volkswagen to take second into La Source, and went side-by-side with Homola on the way up to Eau Rouge, with the Opel driver leading the way into the corner.

Huff’s Volkswagen was no match for the Audi again however, with van der Linde taking second positon back by the end of the first lap.

Homola pulled into the pits with a technical issue at the start of the second lap, with the TCR Benelux paddock after the start-finish straight, allowing van der Linde into the lead while Edouard Mondron passed Huff for what was now second on lap two.

While van der Linde pulled away, Mondron was now holding up Huff, who was soon joined by team-mate Maxime Potty, who had worked his way forward from the back of the grid.

Huff managed to get back ahead of Mondron on the penultimate lap and was running in second, but with Potty passing Mondron for third, the Brit then fell behind his team-mate at the finish.

Van der Linde and Comini now lead the TCR Benelux standings on 105 points, with the Mondron brothers 36 points back on 69.

After a strong Sunday for Jean-Karl Vernay and Rob Huff, the duo are third in the standings, just five points further behind, two ahead of Benjamin Lessennes and Enzo Guibbert.

The next round of the TCR Benelux series is in four weeks’ time at Zandvoort, The Netherlands.
