Tom Coronel OK after third puncture puts him out at Zandvoort

Tom Coronel ended the day in the barriers at his home race at Zandvoort, causing the fourth and final race of the day for the TCR Benelux series to finish behind the safety car. But the Dutchman was left bewildered after his third puncture of the weekend.

Coronel was running in third position, holding off the Bas Koeten Audi RS 3 of Mika Morien, when his tyre began to run flat on lap eight. Morien made a move around the outside at the final Arie Luyendijk corner, before Coronel then plunged off at the exit and into the tyre barriers, spinning back on to the track and was narrowly avoided by the following cars.

“I was already driving slow, that’s why the other guy overtook me easily on the outside, but then I think the tyre came completely off the rim or something, as I was just driving slow before entering the pit and then bang, that was it,” he said to TouringCarTimes

“Both races were good battles. I had a small fight with the Peugeot in Race 1, the races were quite fun. It’s just unbelievable to have had three punctures in the same weekend, very strange.”
