Engström takes pole position at Adria
Sweden’s Tomas Engström has claimed pole for tommorow’s first race at the third FIA European Touring Car Cup. The Swede, driving a Honda Accord was almost four tenth’s of a second quicker round a lap at the Adria track than the runner up. This second position was claimed by the Dane Jens Reno Moller, also driving a Honda Accord.
After having provisional pole for a while, Maurizio Ceresoli had to settle for third position on the grid tommorow. The Italian driver, teaming up with GR Asia, was 0.457s to slowe in his SEAT León.
The two Chevrolet Lacetti’s, entered by Chevrolet Motorsport Danmark, failed to impress in qualifying, after they had dominated the practise sessions. Pontus Morth and Henrik Lungaard qualified in fourth and fifth respectively. Morth and Lungaard were fastest at the beginning of the session, which started with a dry track, but dropped down after the qualifying session was briefly interrupted by a red flag. This was caused by the Super Production BMW of Revello, who had to park his car alongside the track with a smoking engine.
In the Super Production class it was Fabio Fabiani (BMW 320i) who took a surprising pole position by outpacing Aleksey Basov in his Honda Civic and Anton Markin in a BMW 320i.
Ford Fiesta driver Jens-Guido Weimann was fastest in the S1600 class with a time of 1:32.043. All the 38 drivers entered in the event posted a valid qualifying time.
