New qualifying system for ETC Cup 2008

The European Touring Car Cup will according to our information get a new system on who are allowed to take part in the race next year. The race this year attracted few of the top teams from the top national championships like BTCC, DTC and STCC. For next year to get more top teams and stop teams from WTCC – a “qualifying” system will be introduced.

The suggestion, which is being discussed between the FIA and the national organizers, is that a number of races will be selected in each national championship where the competitor gets points. These points they will need to be able to race in the ETC Cup. Though this suggestion is still under discussion, and the option to select for example top five from each championship could also be used.

S2000-cars will be the main category, but Super Production cars will still be allowed while the S1600-class that was introduced this year will be scrapped.
