Thate Motorsport enters Mercedes

Team Thate Motorsport has bought a Mercedes C200 to compete in this years Procar Series in Germany. The Mercedes C200 has been racing in the Swedish Touring Car Championship in 2007 by Tobias Johansson and was build by MB Sport, that is run by Johansson.

The Mercedes C200 will be driven by Jens-Guido Weimann this year. The car has been moved to Thate Motorsport in Preetz, near Hamburg. The team is preparing the car there, so the car is ready for the first race in Oschersleben on May 10th and 11th.

Before the start of the season, Thate Motorsport wants to run some tests with the car, with the support from MB Sport from Sweden. But first the team has to build in the regulated parts from the Procar Series.

The car was bought from MB Sport after the European Touring Car Cup race Adria, Italy. “I saw the car at the track and there was another Mercedes in the paddock, that was for sale”, Jens-Guido Weimann said. “After the weekend I knew this car was exactly what our championship needs”, Weimann continues.

“After the raceweekend we contacted MB Sport in Sweden and we came to an agreement very soon after that.” The Ford Fiesta ST, that was driven by Weimann in 2007, has been sold to an employee of Lauderbach Motorsport. It will probably be raced in the second division of the Procar Series again this year.
