Honda king of top speed at Salzburgring

The place of the 2008 FIA European Touring Car Cup is Salzburgring in Austria. The track is very fast, the average speed is close to 180 km/h and the cars top out close to 240 km/h on the fastest place on the track. Raw power in the cars are important but not everything. Jens Reno Møller’s Honda Accord had the highest top speed, 7 km/h more than the BMW of Richard Göransson, who put the fastest lap time.

Honda has always been known to have strong engines in touring car racing and that fact is confirmed here. Honda-drivers Møller and Engström were fastest in the speed trap, 237,2 km/h on Møller and 236,4 km/h on Engström.

Oscar Nogues in the SEAT Léon was third fastest with 232,6 km/h ahead of Michel Nykjær in the Chevrolet Lacetti with 231,5.

From fifth to eleventh place we find six rev limiter bouncing BMW’s. Because of their gearing all BMW’s top out at 230 km/h.
