Thompson masters the wet in Portugal
James Thompson was fastest in the third and final practice session at a rainy Braga. The Brit lapped the track in 1:29.331 with his Danish prepared Honda Accord. Second fastest was BMW man Franz Engstler, nine tenths behind Thompson.
Third fastest was Norbert Michelisz, who topped the first session, in his SUNRED Engineering prepared diesel SEAT Léon.
Manufacturer colleague Fransisco Carvalho was fourth fastest, just eight hundredth of a second behind Michelisz.
Reining champion Michel Nykjaer claimed fifth fastest time, leading three Chevrolet Lacetti’s. Harry Vaulkhard was sixth and Duarte Félix Da Costa seventh.
Swedish Honda driver Tomas Engström was eight, half a second faster than Danish Honda driver Per Poulsen.
The second practice session was stopped because of the rain and only a few drivers were out on the track.
In the third session ten S2000 cars were out on track, with the two Marurer Motorsport prepared Chevrolet Lacetti’s still in the pit garage. The team was repairing the cars after damage sustained in the final race of the ADAC Procar where the team is competing regularly.
