Further details released on ETCC 2010
Further details have been released surrounding the FIA European Touring Car Cup 2010. The organisation confirmed a few days ago that the race at Oschersleben has been moved from the 30th of May to the 5th of September. The regulations for the 2010 season contains more news.
The success ballast system has been announced. The winner of each race gets 30 kilos, down to the sixth placed man that gets 5 kilos.
1st – 30 kg
2nd – 25 kg
3rd – 20 kg
4th – 15 kg
5th – 10 kg
6th – 5 kg
The scoring of championship points is going to be awarded with extra kilos as well. One point in the championship equals to one kilo added to the total success ballast. The maximum ballast weight is 70 kilos.
As for the base weights of the cars, the rules state the following:
– front-wheel drive petrol-engined cars benefit from a reduction of 20 kg*, – rear-wheel drive cars benefit from a reduction of 15 kg* (rolling start), – old cars satisfying the following definition and listed below (Part B) benefit from a weight reduction of 15 kg.*
Nationally homologated cars are going to receive an extra ballast of 20 kilos. Race-by-race entries are going to receive 30 kilos of extra weight.
* These weights will be subtracted from the minimum weight of the car (cf. Appendix J) except in cases where success ballast is applicable. In such cases, these weights will be subtracted from the total weight of the car, including the success ballast described in Article 82 of the present regulations.
The introduction of the definition “old cars” is new and means cars that have taken part in the FIA World Touring Car Championship before a period of 25 months ahead of the ETCC event. In other words cars that have been build before the 28th of february 2008 (for the first race).
