César Campaniço wins second race in Portugal
Local driver César Campaniço took the honors in the second FIA European Touring Car Cup race at Braga in Portugal. The Portuguese won the race two seconds ahead of fellow BMW-driver Kristian Poulsen.
Race one winner James Thompson finished third, but was 16 seconds behind the lead duo over the finish line.
Thompson’s team mate Tomas Engström caught trouble early in the race and finished seventh in the end. The Swede clashed with Michaël Rossi in the first corner and lost a lot of time while Rossi had to retire.
A few laps later Engström got involved in trouble again as he collided with Timur Sadredinov. The Swede was able to continue while the Russian spun.
Meanwhile Campaniço made his way up through the field early on from fifth on the grid. The Portuguese overtook both Poulsen and Ibrahim Okyay on the third lap for the lead.
Thompson claimed the lead in the championship with 16 points, just one point ahead of Campaniço and two points ahead of Poulsen. Engström is fourth with 11 points.
