Mayer takes pole at Salzburgring

Oliver Mayer has secured the first pole position for the Audi A4 at the Salzburgring in a wet qualifying session, ahead of Team Engstler drivers Roland Hertner and Johannes Leidinger.

With the Liqui-Moly Team Engstler drivers comfortably fastest in all the test sessions, it was looking likely the championship leading squad were set for their usual strong qualifying performance, but a wet qualifying session shook things up and allowed Oliver Mayer to take pole position in his third appearance in the championship.

Mayer, racing for his own team, will line-up on pole position ahead of Liqui-Moly Team Engstler’s Roland Hertner, who was leading the championship up until last weekends round at Assen. In third will be Johannes Leidinger, the 23-year old who jointly leads the championship with teammate Florian Spengler, who didn’t set a time.

In Division 2, Guido Thierfelder set the class pole in his Peugeot 207 Sport, whilst Division 3 pole was claimed by Alf Ahrens in the Renault Clio RS.

Six drivers from the championship, including pole sitter Mayer will also compete in the FIA ETCC this weekend, once the two rounds of the ADAC Procar series have been completed on Saturday morning.
