Nykjær dominates wet first race at Franciacorta
Michel Nykjær claimed victory in the penultimate FIA Euroepan Touring Car Cup race of the year. The Dane started second and overtook pole man James Thompson on the outside of the first corner.
Thompson lost another place on the first lap as Honda-rival Tomas Engström managed to get past.
Engström and Thompson fought hard for second while Nykjær was able to pull up a comfortable lead. Thompson was close to Engström in the first part of the race but dropped behind towards the end of the race.
Peter Rikli, who started last after having his qualifying times disallowed due to failing a ride height control, managed to get up through the field to finish sixth behind Wolfgang Treml and Ibrahim Okyay.
Thompson still heads the standings ahead of the final race of the year, but Nykjær and Engström have closed in and are both eight points behind.
Carsten Siefert claimed the S1600 victory ahead of Jens Löhnig while Vojislav Lekić took the Super Production victory ahead of Fabio Fabiani.
