Second win for Nykjær as Thompson claims ETCC title

Michel Nykjær claimed his fourth victory in four starts in the FIA European Touring Car Cup. But all eyes were on James Thompson as the Brit secured the title. Thompson finished third in the race and claimed the points needed to become champion.

Swedish Honda-driver Tomas Engström held the lead for the majority of the race. Nykjær was turned around in the first lap by Aytaç Biter in a fight for third. Biter was given a drive-through penalty for the incident.

Nykjær was able to continue without too much of a delay and started a chase for the top. The Dane got past Thompson on lap six and was right on the tail of Engström 13 laps later.

As the duo lapped Massimo Zanin, Nykjær managed to squeeze past Engström up in to the lead. Engström tried to fight back, but was not able to get past.

There was further action in the closing stages of the race as Wolfgang Treml and Ibrahim Okyay clashed in the fight for fourth. Okyay was given a 30 second penalty for the incident which dropped him to sixth.

Vojislav Lekić once again won the Super Production category and claimed the title ahead of Fabio Fabiani. Carsten Seifert won the S1600 category and claimed that title.
