ADAC Procar season starts at Oschersleben
The German Super 2000 ADAC Procar series starts this weekend where it ended last year, at the Oschersleben circuit in eastern Germany, with a new mix of cars at the front.
2010’s dominant Liqui Moly Team Engster squad aren’t back with a flotilla of cars this time, presently with the only driver scheduled to be taking part this weekend is last year’s championship runner-up Johannes Leidinger, but there’s still a TBC on a second car for the team.
Leidinger has got to be the favourite for the title with a full year of experience in the rear-wheel drive BMW 320si behind him. Leidinger came so close to winning the title last year, actually tying on points with Roland Hertner, but Hertner took the trophy on the total of race victories in the season.
There will be another BMW to watch out for though, as Thate Motorsport have made the switch of the big German marques and swapped their Mercedes C200 for an ex-WTCC BMW 320si E90 for driver Jens Weimann.
Division 3 has been dropped, with the cars now running in Division 1 if they want to, but that’s not the option 2010’s Division 3 winner Andreas Kast has taken up, with K&K Motorsport entering a S2000 specification Audi A4 for the Berlin driver.
Yaco Racing will return with at least two Toyota Auris race cars for Russian Michail Stepanov and Swiss driver Lorenz Frey. A third car is also TBC on the entry list for team this season.
The Swiss Rikli Motorsport team will field two Hondas again this year in Division 1. The imported Japanese Honda Civic FD2 will be raced by Team Principal Peter Rikli, and Christian Fischer will use the team’s Honda Accord Euro-R.
Thomas Fjordbach and Matthias Kaul will compete in Division 1 with their Renault Clio Cup and Opel Astra GTC race cars respectively, but are likely not to be able to compete with the full Super 2000 cars in D1.
Division 2 is almost the ‘Ford Fiesta’ class, with just two exceptions. The main one is 2010 D2 champion Guido Thierfelder returning in his ETH Tuning-run Peugeot 207 Sport.
The other exception is a Citroen C2 for Niklas Mackschin at LAFIA Motorsport, with the rest of the class comprising of six Ford Fiestas, three of which are run by Glatzel Racing.
This brings the total entry for the opening round of the 2011 ADAC Procar season to 17 cars.
The series comprises of eight race meetings, starting in Oschersleben and returning there for Round 4 along with the World Touring Car Championship in July.
The series will also visit a few European circuits in 2011 at Zolder, the Red Bull Ring and Assen later in the year. The series will also race ‘at home’ at the Sachsenring, EuroSpeedway with the final round held at Hockenheim on 2nd October.
