Peter Rikli takes pole position at the Sachsenring
Peter Rikli has secured his first pole position with the Honda Civic FD at the Sachsenring in Germany for the second race meeting of the 2011 ADAC Procar series.
The Swiss driver was comfortably fastest in the qualifying session, outpacing Thate Motorsport’s Jens Weimann by 1.1 seconds with a lap of 1:31.686.
There was a shock as Liqui-Moly Team Engstler driver Johannes Leidinger spun out in to the gravel trap in his BMW 320si, and could only manage a time good enough for fifth on the grid. As a result, pole position is taken by a car other than an Engstler-run car for the first time since the Salzburgring last July.
Swiss rookie Lorenz Frey had qualified in sixth place in the Yaco Racing Toyota Auris, but will not be able to take part in the race after crashing out heavily, damaging his car beyond repair. This leaves Michail Stepanov as the sole Toyota on the grid, with the Russian qualifying in third position.
Andreas Kast to sixth. Kast is making his season debut in the Audi A4.
In Division 2, Nils Mierschke secured the class pole with a time of 1:38.678 in the Leipert Motorsport Ford Fiesta, and will start ahead of reigning D2 class champion Guido Theirfelder’s Peugeot 207.
Both races are scheduled to take place at 16:30 CET on Sunday.
