Giovanardi claims ETC Cup 2011 pole position

Hartmann Honda driver Fabrizio Giovanardi kept the top spot from the final practice session to the qualifying session and claimed pole position for the 2011 European Touring Car Cup.

The Italian claimed pole ahead of SEAT driver Pepe Oriola who was just 0.104 seconds behind.

Tomas Engström made it two Hondas in the top three with the time 1:31.538, just below a second from Giovanardi’s time.

Ibrahim Okyay was best BMW driver in fourth, one tenth ahead of fellow BMW racer Mehdi Bennani in fifth.

Wolfgang Treml claimed sixth ahead of Jens-Guido Weimann and Peter Rikli.

Former ETC Cup champion Michel Nykjær had problems getting his Chevrolet Cruze started. By the time he had got out on track, the rain intensified and the Dane only managed to set eleventh fastest time, over ten seconds behind the pole time.

LPG Ford Fiesta driver Thomas Muhlenz claimed the S1600 class pole position and Aleksandar Tošić the Super Production class pole position.
