Michel Nykjaer leads in Salzburgring morning test

Michel Nykjaer was the first driver under 1m29 at the Salzburgring this morning, leading the way in the Chevrolet Cruze ahead of Pepe Oriola.

Nykjaer’s best lap of 1:28.879 was the best lap in the session, with the Dane completing 22 laps in the Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden Cruze.

Pepe Oriola, Nykjaer’s SUNRED team-mate in the World Touring Car Championship, was second fastest, just under two-tenths of a second down in the TDI powered León.

Fabrizio Giovanardi led the way early on in the Hartmann Honda Racing Accord, but didn’t take part in the last part of the session, setting just 11 laps in the one hour session.

The top four were covered by half a second, with a distinct gap back to the fifth fastest car of Mehdi Bennani, with many cars choosing not to take part in the test.

The next session is the official 30 minute free practice session at 12:05 CET.
