Giovanardi: “Nice to come back with a victory”

Fabrizio Giovanardi made his first touring car appearance since last year during the FIA European Touring Car Cup at Salzburgring this weekend. And the Italian returned in style with victory ahead of Pepe Oriola.
“It’s nice to come back to touring cars with a victory. It was not easy though, as Oriola made my life very hard, especially in the first race,” said Giovanardi.

Giovanardi fought hard in both races against the SEAT León diesel power of Oriola and had other challenges as well in the form of a reluctant gearbox and windscreen wipers that stopped working.

“After the problems we had in the first race, I was very worried that the gearbox could break in the second. And instead, everything worked fine,” said Giovanardi.

The Italian secured the third consecutive ETC Cup title for Danish team Hartmann Motorsport. The team secured the two previous titles with James Thompson.

“I was fancying it and I thank Hans Hartmann for giving me this opportunity. I said myself: this can be a good car and a good team for claiming a good result. And the result came,” said Giovanardi.
