Tomas Engström happy with third
Tomas Engström finished third in both European Touring Car Cup races at Salzburgring, a position he kept for the overall classification.
“I do of course always want to win, but I am happy with third,” said Engström.
The ETC Cup races in Austria proved to be challenging with torrential rain and a slippery track.
“I could barely see anything because of the spray. We were doing 240 km/h and I wasn’t even able to see the white line at the edge of the track. I had to back off to get a gap to see anything at all,” said Engström.
Despite the lack of visibility, Engström kept a good pace and shadowed the leading duo of Fabrizio Giovanardi and Pepe Oriola in both races.
“We haven’t been fast in the rain in the past. But that is not the case any more, the car is fantastic when it is wet now. We also proved that we are quick in the dry and it is nice to show that with hard work, there are still things that can be improved and developed with the car,” said Engström.
Engström returns to the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship at Karlskoga on the 13th of August.
