Leidinger confirms superiority with race two win

Newly crowned champion Johannes Leidinger took a dominant victory in race two, passing race one winner Peter Rikli at the start and taking his 8th win in 16 races at Assen.

Leidinger now has an unbeatable 34 point lead in the standings with just 20 points available from the final two races at Hockenheim in two weeks, whilst Liqui-Moly Team Engstler have also sewn up the teams’ championship.

The start for race two was delayed after a fire on the forming up lap for Yaco Racing’s Michail Stepanov. Marshals dealt with the burning Toyota Auris before a second start took place, with the rear-wheel drive BMW of Leidinger blasting past the front-wheel drive Honda Civic of Peter Rikli for the lead.

In Division 2, Thierfelder was passed by title rival Nils Mierschke on the second lap, and the Ford Fiesta driver pulled away a 6 second gap to take the win and leave Assen with a nine point lead in the drivers’ standings.

The final round of the season takes place at Hockenheim on October 2nd.
