Rikli wins race, Leidinger wins championship

Peter Rikli snatched victory from Johannes Leidinger’s BMW on the final lap in the first ADAC Procar series race at Assen in his Honda Civic FD, but second place was enough to give the 24-year-old Engstler Motorsport driver the championship crown with three races left.

Leidinger and title rival Jens Weimann made contact on the opening lap, with Weimann’s Thate Motorsport BMW 320si falling to the back of the pack. Weimann recovered to finish fourth, but with Leidinger finishing second, the points gap was enough to seal Leidinger the championship.

Rikli passed Leidinger on the final lap to take his third win of the season in his Honda Civic FD, with team-mate Christian Fischer claiming the final spot on the podium.

In Division 2, Guido Thierfelder worked his way to take the lead of the class as early as lap two in his ETH Tuning Peugeot 207, with class rival Nils Mierschke just one spot behind.
