Maurer Motorsport to miss ETCC opening round
Maurer Motorsport will miss the opening round of the FIA European Touring Car Cup this weekend and will instead make their first appearance of 2012 at the opening round of the ADAC Procar Series on April 1st.
The team initally planned to run two new Chevrolet Aveo S1600s, which was recently expanded to three cars for drivers Alexander Frolov, Vadim Meshcheryakov and Wilson Borgnino this weekend, but will now join the ETCC from the second round in the Slovak Republic.
“Due a technical reason maurer motorsport will not take part at the first round of the
FIA ETCC,” said Team Principal Beat Maurer.
“The whole team worked seven days a week for a period of more than two months. We invested a lot of time in developing all the parts for our new Aveo S1600 project. It’s a shame to say that we can not attend on the first entry of the FIA ETCC in Monza.”
“Our first full racing weekend will be held at the last weekend of March in the ADAC Procar Series in Oschersleben. We thank a lot of our suppliers which also pushed very hard that we can finish the cars in a quick time frame.”
“Unfortunately suppliers can be a blessing, which in most cases is true, but they can
also be a curse. At last it was a problem of a supplier which was forcing us to cancel
our participation in Monza.”
