Fernando Monje fastest on Friday ETCC test

SUNRED Engineering driver Fernando Monje set the pace in testing on Friday for the first round of the 2012 FIA European Touring Car Cup. The Spaniard clocked a best time of 2:01.849 in the second session to finish just under two-tenths up on Czech driver Petr Fulín.

Monje and Fulín were the two fastest drivers in both of the day’s one hour test sessions, with Fulín in the Krenek Motorsport-run BMW 320si setting the pace in the first session.

The combined times of the day saw Norwegian-driver Stian Paulsen end up third fastest and the top classified SEAT León Supercopa driver, just over 2.5 seconds down on Monje’s best time.

USTCC champion Brandon Kraus drove the Proteam Racing run entry in the test and wound up sixth fastest.

Reigning ETC Cup Super Production class winner Aleksandar Tosic was the fastest in the SP class and 11th overall.

Ravenol Team GENA’s Kevin Krammes was the fastest driver in the S1600 class, setting his best time in the first session, whilst Ulrike Krafft driving for Ravenol Team SAN was quickest in the second session, though her best time was 1.4s down on Krammes time from the morning.

The ETCC will have a single free practice session at 9:45 CET tomorrow before qualifying at 15:30 CET.
