ADAC Procar gets ready for 2012 season
The 2012 ADAC Procar Series kicks off this weekend in Oschersleben, with 17 cars expected on the grid for the first round of the German touring car series running to Super 2000 and Super 1600 regulations.
The fastest Division 1 (Super 2000) will feature six cars, with Liqui Moly Team Engstler, the team which has fielded the drivers’ championship winning car for the last three years running two cars in Division 1. Last year’s champion Johannes Leidinger has moved across to the ADAC GT Masters series but taking his place is his 2010 rival, team-mate and champion Roland Hertner, who won the title on a tiebreak with Leidinger.
Hertner’s team-mate at Engstler Motorsport will be the 19-year-old German “Paul Green”.
There will be another two BMW 320sis on the grid with Thate Motorsport returning, running a car for team owner/driver Jens Guido Weimann. New to the series is KM Racing and driver Michael Meyer in an all-black BMW 320si.
K&K Motorsports will also return with the ex-STCC KMS built Audi A4 for Andreas Kast, whilst Russian driver Michail Stepanov will again be racing for Yaco Racing in one of their two Toyota Auris cars.
The most populated class is Division 2, with the lower cost Super 1600 field featuring cars from four marques and drivers from a number of different nationalities.
Last year’s champion Nils Mierschke will defend his title with Rhino’s Leipert Motorsport in a Ford Fiesta ST, with archrival Guido Thierfelder also returning in his ETH Tuning Peugeot 207 Sport.
Series regular Ralf Glatzel returns in his Glatzel Racing Ford Fiesta as does Kevin Krammes, who’s currently leading in the S1600 class in the FIA European Touring Car Cup, with a GENA Autosport-run Ford Fiesta.
New to the championship is Felix Janning, running in Lafia Motorsport’s Citroën C2 VTS and Belarussian Yury Krauchuk, who will be racing for Ravenol Team SAN in a Fiesta.
Liqui Moly Team Engstler will also run a pair of cars in Division 2 this year, fielding a pair of Ford Fiestas (in a rare departure from the BMW marque for the team) with drivers Julia Trampert and Lennart Marioneck.
Also returning to the championship will be the Swiss Maurer Motorsport team. The team which won the 2006 series Division 1 title with Vincent Radermecker will run three newly-built Chevrolet Aveos in the Division 2 class with two Russian drivers Alexander Frolov and Vadim Meshcheriakov and a third for Argentinean Wilson Borgnino.
