Fernando Monje quickest in second ETC Cup test
Super 2000 ETCC points leader Fernando Monje was fastest of all in the second one hour test session for the FIA European Touring Car Cup at the Slovakiaring.
The 19-year-old Spaniard’s best lap of 2:16.976 wasn’t better than Krenek Motorsport’s Petr Fulín from the first test, but with Fulín not taking part in the session was good enough to put him at the top of the time sheets.
The SUNRED Engineering driver is carrying 43kg of ballast this weekend after his success at the opening round at Monza in March, whilst Fulín is just carrying 2kg, 1kg per championship point after he picked up two points for qualifying second at Monza.
With another practice session ahead of the race, fewer cars took part in this test, with less than half the field going out on the circuit.
Andreas Pfister was again fastest in the Single Make Trophy, and second fastest overall in his Pfister Racing SEAT León Supercopa with Stian Paulsen third.
The two Slovak drivers Mat’o Homola and Patrick Nemec were fourth and fifth respectively.
Nikolay Karamyshev was the fastest of the Super Production class drivers but was also the only one of the two drivers entered in that category taking part in the session in his privately entered Honda Civic Type-R.
Klaus Bingler was also the fastest and only Super 1600 car in the session in his ATM Racing Ford Fiesta, though there are 11 S1600 cars entered for this weekend’s race.
A final 30 minute Free Practice session is scheduled for 14:15 with qualifying at 16:00 CET.
