Fernando Monje quickest in Salzburg free practice
Fernando Monje was fastest in free practice at the Salzburgring in the SUNRED SEAT León TDI, ahead of Andreas Pfister’s SEAT León Supercopa.
The session was red flagged early on after Paulo Necchi crashed out at Turn 5 in his Ravenol Team SAN Ford Fiesta, whilst Monje topped the times throughout most of the session in his León, setting a best lap of 1:29.709, 1.5 seconds clear of Pfister.
The top non-SEAT was reigning Hungarian Touring Car champion Csapa Gáspár in the XFX Unicorse Alfa Romeo 156. Gáspár was a last minute replacement for Ferenc Ficza Jnr. who drove the car in Monza and at the Slovakiaring.
Pfister was also the fastest classified driver in the Single Make Trophy class, whilst Nikolay Karamyshev was fastest in Super Production, 11th overall in his Honda Civic Type-R.
Kevin Krammes was fastest in the Super 1600 class in the Ravenol Team GENA Ford Fiesta ahead of Ronny Reinsberger’s NK Racing-run Fiesta and Vadim Meshcheryakov’s Maurer Motorsport Chevrolet Aveo.
Qualifying takes place at 16:45 CET, though Monje is guaranteed not to be the pole sitter as the Spaniard has a ten place grid penalty overhanging from the last race at Slovakia after contact with Urs Sonderegger.
