Six from six for Jens Weimann at the Sachsenring

Jens Weimann continued to dominate the ADAC Procar Series after taking two more victories at the Sachsenring, to bring his total this season to a perfect six wins from six races. The 35-year-old now has a 24 point lead in the Super 2000 class, whilst Guido Thierfelder also took a pair of wins in the Super 1600 class, to also maintain his unbeaten record this season.

Weimann qualified on pole position, 1.4 seconds ahead of Swiss driver Milenko Vukovic’s BMW in the Super 2000 class, which featured four BMW 320sis at the weekend.

In race one, Weimann held the lead at the start, but was closely followed by Vukovic in the early stages of the race as the two BMWs pulled away from Paul Green and Michael Meyer in their Engstler Motorsport and Meyer Racing BMWs respectively.

In Super 1600, Guido Thierfelder jumped ahead of Nils Mierschke’s Ford for the lead at the start in his ETH Tuning Peugeot 207 Sport, and had to fend off Wilson Borgnino’s Maurer Motorsport Chevrolet Aveo for the opening few laps. Borgnino was later caught and passed by Ralf Glatzel’s Ford Fiesta, and later retired from the race with a mechanical issue after nine laps.

Vukovic kept close to race leader Weimann throughout the majority of the race, but spun at the Queckenberg Kurve at the end of lap nine, damaging the rear of his BMW 320si, but would continue on to finish in second, 14 seconds behind Weimann.

Thierfelder won the S1600 class race ahead of Ralf Glatzel, with Ravenol Team’s Yuri Krauchuk taking his season’s best result of third and the final spot on the class podium.

In race two, Milenko Vukovic’s car didn’t take part, leaving Weimann with a clear run into the first corner on the standing start. A slow getaway for Michael Meyer from what was now third on the grid saw the S2000 BMW passed by the S1600 class leader Guido Thierfelder into the first corner, though the BMW was able to retake the position from the Peugeot before the end of the lap.

A mistake for Paul Green in the Liqui Moly Team Engstler BMW on the second lap, skipping across the gravel, dropped him into the clutches of Meyer, whilst Weimann was able to build up and comfortable lead and went on to take the win with a winning margin of 20 seconds.

In S1600, Thierfelder had to defend hard against the two Ford Fiestas of Ralf Glatzel and Nils Mierschke, but was able to break away slightly in the final laps as the two Fords battled with each other, with Mierschke passing Glatzel for second place with two laps to go.

Thierfelder’s sixth victory of the season sees the 42-year-old extend his lead over Mierschke in the standings to 20 points, whilst Weimann leads by 24 points over Paul Green in the S2000 standings.

The next round of the ADAC Procar Series takes place at Oschersleben on July 8th.
