Nicolas Hamilton confirms ETCC intentions
Nicolas Hamilton has announced his intention is to compete in this year’s FIA European Touring Car Cup, after his brother posted a seat fitting with Special Tuning Racing yesterday.
TouringCarTimes understands that Hamilton will test with the team next week, with the hope of competing in the 2013 European Touring Car Cup.
If the deal is made, Hamilton will compete with one of the team’s SEAT León cars which will have to be retrofitted with the 2.0 litre normally aspirated SEAT engine used by the works team between 2005 and 2007, as the turbo-diesel engine and current 1.6 turbocharged engines are not permitted in the ETCC.
Nicolas Hamilton confirmed via his Twitter feed this morning:
“Hey guys, just so you all know, I am aiming to compete in the ETCC this year,” as a correction to speculation that he would compete in the WTCC.
Three rounds of the ETCC support rounds of the World Touring Car Championship, where STR are expected to compete with two SEAT León WTCCs.
The S2000 class of last year’s ETCC was won by Spanish driver Fernando Monje, who went on to compete with the Tuenti Racing Team for the flyaway portion of the WTCC season.
